This consists of the dam, underground power station, Longtan Sky Lake, and Nafubao Exposition Garden and is a major development project on the Hongshui River and one of 10 key Great Western Development projects and a strategic “west-east power transmission” projects and China’s and Asia’s largest hydropower project, second only to the Three Gorges Hydropower Station on the Yangtze River. It has a planned installed power capacity of 6,300 megawatts and is expected to produce 18.7 billion kilowatt-hours annually. Total water capacity is 27.3 billion m3 and flood control storage capacity, 7 billion m3.

The project will be two phases of constructed work, with the current phase having an elevation is 374 meters and power capacity of 4,900 megawatts and an output of 12.34 million kilowatts, an annual utilization of 3,400 hours, and annual generation of 14.79 billion kilowatt-hours. The regular elevation of the reservoir is 375 meters and total capacity is 16.2 billion m3 and flood control storage, 5-billion m3.

The dam will break three world records for construction: highest RCC gravity dam, with a maximum dam height of 216.5 m, length of 832 m, and dam concrete volume of 7.37 million m3; largest below ground power station, 388.5 m long, 28.5 m wide, and 74.4 m high; and the highest vertical lift for a ship, at 179 meters maximum, and length of 1,650 m. Longtan Sky Lake is a reservoir formed by the Hydropower Station, with a surface area of 377 sq km and a maximum depth of around 200 m. It is on the border of eastern Guizhou province and northwestern Guangxi in the Phoenix Mountains, crossing 10 counties.

It is a bright green pearl at the edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with superb scenery and perfect ecology and environment, and a good place to relax yourself and remove all the stress from your mind in the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings.
