The Huixian Mountain Scenic Zone |
The Huixian (Fairy Meeting) Mountain is also known as the North Mountain. It is located in Bailongshan Park, which is one kilometer from the downtown area of Yizhou city. The mountain stands high into the sky and looks like a male lion. If you climb up to the top, you can look as far as the eye can see and the whole downtown area will come into view.
Euphemistically known as “Standing on the Fairy Meeting Mountain to Look into the Distance”, it is the best of the Eight Scenic Sights of Yizhou. It has been a tourist attraction since the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907).
On the top lies a huge bird-shaped stone, looking like a bird with its wings spreading. The two Chinese characters of “Qi Yun”, meaning “riding the cloud”, were inscribed on the stone in the Ming Dynasty. On the platform in front of the stone used to stand a pavilion called the “Qiyu Pavilion”.
On the cliffs is an inscription of three Chinese characters: Ji Gao Ming, meaning “Extraordinary Intelligence and Cunning”. It was written by Li Ji, a commander in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
There is the upright stone tablet where Xu Jiabin, the magistrate of the Qingyuan Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) reported on his work. Today, there stands a television relay sub-station. Scenic spots include the Lake of Heaven, the Sweet Spring, the White Dragon Cave, the One Hundred Sons Cave, the Snowflake Cave, the Deep Well Cave, the Immortality Pill Making Cliff, the White Cloud Convent, the Platform for King Wing’s Appointing Commanders, and the Valley Bottom Temple.
