Zhanjiang exported 4,654 tons of aquatic products to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the first three quarters of this year, netting revenue of $26.66 million, up 14 and 15 percent year-on-year respectively.

The aquaculture industry has become an engine for local economic development, creating 400,000 jobs and generating an annual output value of more than 30 billion yuan ($4.6 billion). The export of aquatic products accounts for one third of the city's foreign trade.
