2016 Zhanjiang Tea Tourism Expo hits new highs

Updated: 2016-10-12

More than 100,000 people flocked to the five-day 2016 Guangdong (Zhanjiang) Tea Tourism Expo during the Golden Week (Oct 1-7), spending an unprecedented amount of more than 35 million yuan ($5.2 million) and contributing to one billion yuan of contract value.

The perpetually largest and richest exhibition at the Zhanjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center was equipped with upgraded stalls, attracting locals as well as visitors from neighboring cities such as Maoming, Beihai, Haikou, and Yangjiang, thus setting another record in visitor numbers.

More exhibitioners attended the show, up 20 percent from last year. Various teas such as oolong, black tea, green tea, white tea, and flower tea were available for free tastings.

The spotlight was also put on local famous tea brands including Minghuang Tea and Mingshangming. The steamed green tea made by Guangdong Huahai Sugar offered a fresh, pure taste without bitterness, popular among tea lovers.

Echoing the delicate tea aroma were some performances to display traditional Chinese culture, which included calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting. The daily shows on Chinese classical music and the martial art of Wing Chun were also staged.

The annual expo, which ran simultaneously with this year's Ocean Week, ran smoothly for the seventh year in Zhanjiang, further boosting the city's tourism development as well as bolstering the reputation for hosting large exhibitions.
