Calling all ocean lovers: get down to Zhanjiang this National Day holiday
Updated: 2016-09-21
Situated in the north of Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula, which juts southward almost touching Hainan province, Zhanjiang is a city whose residents live and breathe the ocean.
The city's annual Ocean Week, which this year runs from Oct 1-5, is a fun-fuelled series of ocean-themed activities aimed at highlighting the area's stunning marine life and tourist attractions.
Whether its music with a tropical twist that you're after, enjoying an ice-cold beer or braving a night run along the coast, Zhanjiang Ocean Week has more than enough activities to heal the sea-deprived soul.

Daily musical performances will feature at Jinsha Bay Beach from 7:30-9:00 pm, alongside a large-scale beer carnival, where beer vendors will be scattered around the beach. Of course, no beach carnival is complete without a barbeque and a selection of healthy platters will be put on for peckish visitors.
Tea varieties including strains of oolong, black tea, green tea and flower tea will be available for tasting at the Zhanjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center. Visitors can also enjoy reasonable discounted products at the 2016 Guangdong (Zhanjiang) Tea Tourism Expo, which will run simultaneously with Ocean Week.
The annual event is organized by the Zhanjiang Municipal Party Committee and has been held for successive three years since 2013.
Activities have been tailored in the last few years to support the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. The event's wider aim is to promote the tourism brand of Zhanjiang as a coastal city.
