The annual passenger throughput of Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport exceeded 10 million people for first time on Nov 28.

It makes it the 23rd airport in a provincial capital in China to exceed the 10 million mark in terms of annual passenger throughput.

Liao Xiaoyan was the lucky 10 millionth passenger. She received a free plane ticket and VIP card from the airport to mark the occasion.

“Zhongchuan International Airport changed a lot these two years and the Terminal 2 building brings a completely new look,” said Liao.

Since opening to the public in February 2015, the airport has seen its passenger throughput increase from 6 million to 10 million.

According to the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), the Gansu Civil Aviation Group will construct four new airports in Gansu during the five year period.

“Our goal is to construct an ‘air corridor’ which connects Gansu with the world,” said Ruan Wenyi, president of Gansu Civil Aviation Group.

Official statistics show that Zhongchuan International Airport services 179 flight routes connecting it to 85 cities.

Lin Duo, vice secretary of Gansu provincial Party Committee, said he hoped that Zhongchuan can make further contributions to Gansu’s economic development.
