Local farmers from Lanzhou’s Gaolan county have gained benefits from the poverty relief measures launched by local authorities in 2012.
“I work near Gaolan county, my son is in the transportation business and my wife has opened a small shop in the county. The annual household income of my family has exceeded 80,000 yuan ($11,693),”said Peng Ningjia, a villager from Gaolan county.
Official statistics show that the per capita disposable income of villagers in Gaolan county reached 8,451 yuan by the end of 2015, seeing an average annual increase of 17.8 percent.
Transportation is known as the biggest difficulty for local villagers to connect with other places in world. Take Gaolan’s Jiuhe village as an example. An unpaved road is the only connection between the village and the outside world. When it rains, the road will become muddy and local villagers can’t transport the ripe crops to other places to sell in time. Instead, the local villagers helplessly watch the crops rot.
Now, things have changed.
Nine infrastructure construction projects, including road construction and water conservancy facilities, have been launched in the county since 2015, according to Da Nengyu, an official from Fengdeng village in Gaolan county.
