A Gansu policeman who saved a woman from an attempted suicide after jumping in Bailongjiang River drowned to death on Oct 24.

The man, 30-year-old Fan Long, had served in the army for seven years before serving as a policeman for five years up until his tragic death.

Fan received the order to persuade the woman out of suicide after she was spotted at the bank of Bailongjiang River just before midnight on Oct 23.

After failing to talk her down, the woman jumped into the river and Fan followed. Despite saving her life, Fan was washed away and drowned.

He was eventually found under the Luxing Bridge.

Authorities in Gansu have praised Fan for his heroism and held a public service to mourn his loss.

After hearing Fan’s story, Ma Shizhong, a member from the CPC Gansu Provincial Committee, made instructions and encouraged police to remember Fan Rong and learn from the way he dutifully honored his post.
