The construction of the Beijing-Urumqi Highway’s Gansu section has been completed, and is expected to open in the middle of October.
According to official statistics, the Gansu section is 134 kilometers in length, and links Baigeda to Mingshui.
The Gansu section is an important part of the Beijing-Urumqi Highway, a 2,582-kilometer-long project linking China’s capital to Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
It is an important infrastructure project to connect Xinjiang with Northern China and Northeast China’s regions, according to the Gansu Development and Reform Commission.
The Beijing-Urumuqi Highway is expected to be completed in June of next year, and it will shorten the drive between the cities by more than 1,300 kilometers compared to previous routes, which means around a dozen hours will be saved when traveling between the two cities.
