Gansu to build national corn seed production base

Northwest China's Gansu province plans to build a national corn seed production base, with 20,000 hectares of land to be allocated for corn seed cultivation, says the local government.
The production base will cover several cities and counties including Zhangye city, Ganzhou district and Linze county. A total of 575 million yuan ($91 million) will be invested in the project.

Zhangye city held a meeting on reporting the project's progress in major areas on Nov 3, with representatives from participating regions taking part.
According to the meeting, the preliminary construction work for the production base has started in major areas, and specialized organizations have been established to investigate the participating enterprises. Initial project plans have been made to ensure the project's progress and quality.

The feasibility study report of Gansu production base was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission this May, and the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission announced the investment plan for the production base later in August.
