Taobao, a major Chinese online marketplace, is now carrying a “Specialties of China” online shop for the city of Longnan, according to the Gansu province government office, at a press conference on Aug 8, making Longnan, in the southeastern part of Gansu, the province’s first city shop of its kind.

The online shop carries the city’s special Kang county agaric, Cheng county walnuts, Wudu peppers and many other local items and intends to promote the local economy by introducing many other products and resources through e-commerce.

“Specialties of China” is a main Taobao site, whose purpose is to market various Chinese products and to promote tourism. The online shop has become quite popular across China and the cooperation with Longnan is expected to be a market winner.

Longnan is also planning a 2014 Longnan (Cheng county) Walnut Products Fair for Aug 21, since around 237,000 hectares in the city area produce walnuts, making it the second largest walnut cultivator in China. The city expects to harvest 96,700 tons of walnuts this year.
