A two-day forum focusing on how Pingtan can develop rural tourism closed on May 26.

The invited scholars, experts and entrepreneurs from across the Chinese mainland and Taiwan had lots of useful suggestions for how the island city in Fujian province could attract tourists to its fishing villages and picturesque countryside.

As a Taiwan resident, a lot of people asked me what the mainland could learn from Taiwan about the cultural and creative industries, and my answer is the way of thinking. The development of a creative cultural product stems from deep exploration of time and space, and an excellent product should not only embody local culture and history, but also echo current trends.
