A TV adaptation of popular Chinese novel Flower Blossoms on the Sea is currently being shot in Pingtan, Fujian province.

Starring famous actors Shawn Dou and Li Qin, the series is being financed by online streaming platform LeTV.

Dou first gained recognition in 2010 for his performance in Zhang Yimou's The Love of the Hawthorn Tree. Qin is most well-known for her roles as Xue Baochai and Yang Kaihui in the TV series The Dream of Red Mansions, and film The Founding of a Party.

Flower Blossoms on the Sea tells of the romance between Lei Yuzheng, a pampered son of a wealthy family, and Du Xiaosu, a young entertainment reporter.

Pingtan has become a popular destination for movies shoots, TV series and reality shows in recent years. Shawn Dou and Li Qin are not the first celebrities to have shot on Pingtan, with Jiang Xin, Tian Liang, Ming Dao and Yi Nengjing, visiting the city in the past.
