Zhang Zhaomin, Party chief of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone led a public blood donation drive on Feb 17, aimed at increasing plasma stocks and encouraging people to get out and donate.

The two day event was held at Pingtan Conference Center, and saw 464 government officials as well as members of the public donate 155,000 milliliters of blood.

It is first time that Pingtan government has organized such an activity.

"Blood donation shows love and caring among people and reflects our society's empathy," said Zhang, "As a government leader, I want to take the lead."

"It is a great privilege to donate blood and repeated blood donations are good to both personal health and the whole society," he said while a medic staff's drawing his blood.

He also stressed that more blood donation activities should be organized in Pingtan, hoping more government officials engage in the blood donations voluntarily in the future.
