Pingtan has made it easy for Taiwan-licensed cars to run on the mainland through issuing temporary credentials
Two Taiwan-licensed cars arrived at the Pingtan Aoqian roll-on/roll-off passenger ship wharf on Nov 15. Staff members of the Pingtan vehicle administration office verified the identification of car owners and issued them each with temporary license plates and driving licenses.
One car owner, surnamed He, told the reporter that he was on a business trip to Xiamen, another city in Fujian province, and it was the second time for him to apply for a temporary license plate for his car in Pingtan.
Chen Jianping, an official from Pingtan vehicle administration office, said it has become a common practice for Taiwan-licensed vehicles to travel in Fujian via Pingtan port, which offers incentives for cross-straits economic exchanges and assigns great importance toward building Pingtan into a common homeland for cross-Straits residents and an international tourism island.
Currently, Pingtan is actively exploring a streamlined management system, which shall enable cross-Straits vehicles to travel between Taiwan and Pingtan in a more convenient fashion.
So far, there are a total of 62 Taiwan-licensed motor vehicles, including two freight trucks, eighteen cars and forty-one heavy motorcycles that have entered Fujian via Pingtan.
