The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone administration held a meeting to arrange preparations for typhoon Megi, on the morning of Sept 27, after finishing a video conference with Fujian provincial authorities on mobilization to guard against the tropical cyclone.

A local Party working committee secretary, Zhang Zhaomin, said that Megi will have an even harder impact than the last typhoon, and called for greater attention to be paid to disaster prevention and for all vessels to be safely moored, all personnel to stay back from the coast, and all those living in possibly dangerous or risky areas to move to safer ground, without exception.

Zhang also called for weaker structures and outdoor billboards to be reinforced. The media have been asked to provide greater coverage on the coming storm so that people are fully aware of the possible disaster and are not looking for a bit of luck. The meteorologists were told to report weather conditions in a timely fashion, water departments to monitor reservoirs, and all government departments to get ready for any emergencies.
