Some of the world's best kiteboarders are set to descend upon Pingtan from Sept 20 to 25, to take part in the island's fifth International Kiteboarding Festival.
Three major events will take place over the five-day festival, such as the Freestyle Kiteboarding World Championship, the second National Kiteboarding Championship, and a kite surfing carnival.
A total of $50,000 (333,978 yuan) is up for grabs at the world championship event, organized by the International Kiteboarding Association, China's General Administration of Sport, Chinese Kite Flying Association, Fujian Sports Bureau, and Pingtan administration.
The second national kiteboarding championship is sponsored by China's General Administration of Sport and Chinese Kite Flying Association. It includes disciplines such as twin tip downwind race.
Locals will be able to get involved with the carnival, which offers a chance to learn more about the extreme sport, interactive games, and kite surfing-themed exhibitions.
Registration for the championship events closes on Sept 19. Those wishing to take part can visit the official website of the International Kiteboarding Association (internationalkiteboarding.org) to register, or email info@chinakitesurf.com.
