Pingtan, an island city in East China's Fujian province and an experimental area for cross-Straits cooperation, needs to protect its natural environment and strengthen its cooperation with Taiwan, according to Leng Rong, director of CCCPC Party Literature Research Office, on June 23.
The remarks were made during Leng's visit to Pingtan, which was aimed at inspecting the area's tourism development and the progress of its Common Homeland construction.
Leng toured the Taiwan Innovation Park and Aoqian Taiwan Town, where he was briefed on the entrepreneurship and employment of young people from Taiwan in Pingtan. Leng spoke highly of Pingtan's preferential policies to attract and support Taiwan young entrepreneurs to start up businesses there. He also urged the area to make full use of its favorable location close to Taiwan to turn itself into a Common Homeland for people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
The director also visited scenic spots in Pingtan, including Yuandang'ao Beach, Haitan Ancient City and Longfengtou Seaside Resort and applauded Pingtan's beautiful natural scenery. He called on Pingtan to make better plans for tourism exploitation and development and develop tourism with unique local characteristics, such as its original ecology and coastal resources.
