Guests of the fifth Common Homeland Forum visited some scenic spots and key investment projects in Pingtan, Fujian province, on June 14, to gain a better understanding of its opening up and development.
They toured the Taiwan Innovation Park, Haitan Ancient City, Tannan Bay, Aoqian High-Speed Passenger Terminal as well as other areas. Some gave insightful suggestions for Pingtan's development.
Zhao Maolin, supervisor of the Taiwan Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, said that it is important for Pingtan and Taiwan to share experiences of success in the process of developing Pingtan into an international tourist destination.
Some other Taiwan guests spoke highly of Pingtan's natural landscape, including Guo Mengda who said that Pingtan has rich coastal resources conductive to its goal of becoming an international tourist destination.
Cai Wuzhang thought that Pingtan should take advantage of its natural environment and diverse culture but also maintain a balance between ecological protection and tourism development.
Cai Jinshu thought that the Haitan Ancient City (an antique-style architectural complex) was a good move, as it adds more unique Chinese characteristics to Pingtan's tourism resources.
Hou Jialing suggested Pingtan follow Taiwan's coastal tourism development model and said that Pingtan's natural landscape is the most valuable resource for its tourism.
