The extravagant creations at Pingtan Sand Sculpture Park will serve as the backdrop to a song and dance drama to be held during the Pingtan International Sand Sculpture Festival which begins in May, according to Lin Meilan, head of the park.
The drama is based on the history of Pingtan, with an emphasis on its role in the maritime Silk Road and cross-Straits relations, making it the first play based on Pingtan's unique characteristics.
The performances are a joint effort between the Pingtan Sand Sculpture Park and the Fuzhou Song and Dance Ensemble. The song and dance routine will be made up of five sections, aiming to portray the history and culture of Pingtan.
The show will also use state-of-the-art audio and lighting as well as 3-D projections.
Lin said that the drama will be the highlight of this year's international sand sculpture festival.
The Pingtan International Sand Sculpture Festival is an annual event that started back in 2003. Local authorities are committed to developing it into cultural brand, which will help boost the area's tourism sector.
