The Taiwan Innovation Park in Pingtan, Fujian province hosted a pep rally for the first-ever China (Fujian) Female University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition on Jan 30, local news portal ptnet.cn reported.

Female university professors, experts and top entrepreneurs from Taiwan and Chinese mainland gathered to share their business startup experiences in front of an audience of nearly 100 would-be entrepreneurs.

Sponsored by the Fujian Women's Federation, the competition opened on Dec 18, 2015 and closes in June 2016 and is designed to draw more attention to young female entrepreneurs and help increase their influence.

Participants are required to register in groups, and then submit their business ideas. If their ideas succeed in making it through to the next round, the teams will be mentored by a business expert leading on to a live knockout competition on TV.

According to the organizers, winners will receive a total of 555,000 yuan ($84,400) in prize money and more than 2 million yuan in entrepreneurship investment funding.

Lin Ping, deputy director of Pingtan women's working committee, said that the competition is in line with their mission to help female university students find employment or start up their own business. Lin pointed out that the competition gives the students an opportunity to show their talents, exchange ideas and raise funds for their startup projects.

Chen Xiaoqin, a female graduate of Fujian Normal University, also called for more students who want to one day have their own businesses to take part in the competition.
