Pingtan to have first Taiwan residential area

The Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province plans to build a community for local Taiwan people, said officials with local planning bureau on Jan 17.
The officer informed that the site will be on the north of Zhuyu Lake, a local scenic spot known for its beautiful natural scenery.
Wang Tianjun, director of the planning bureau said that the project will get help from Taiwan investors and will be managed by Taiwan professionals. When it is completed, the community will follow the management and service models of communities in Taiwan.
He also mentioned that local authorities considered the community a significant move to enhance cross-Straits cooperation. And they planned to establish more such communities in the next few years.
Many Taiwan people who work and live in Pingtan expressed that they are excited about the news.
Shi Shengguo, standing director of the Pingtan Association of Taiwan Investment enterprises on the Mainland pointed out that having such communities will help improve local Taiwan people's sense of belonging.
Lin Qiaoying, deputy head of the association said that the community will help local people gain a better understanding of the culture on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and contribute to cultural integration.
Zhang Liang, a Taiwan resident who has started a business in Pingtan said the community will feel like home and that it will attract more people from Taiwan to start or expand businesses in the county.
