A course teaching pupils protect themselves from sexual assault opened first time at a primary school in Pingtan county, Fujian province on Sept 24.
Lin Liling, vice president of Chengbei Primary School, gave instruction in the first class to an audience of around 90 including students, parents and fellow teachers.
The class approached the somewhat heavy topic in a light manner, with Lin leading a group of kids to dance, and then pointing out which parts of their bodies are private ones and not subject to touch from strangers.
“Our bodies keep growing in puberty, which comes with many physical changes, for example, boys may grow beards, girls are getting their periods,” said Lin. “those are quite normal symptoms, and there is no need to be worried.”
To better protect themselves from sexual attacks, young students are supposed to stay vigilant for abnormal behaviors especially touches by strangers. This message was taught through a play where a student turned down a proposal about intimate touches from an adult.
Once they suffer from a sexual offense, students were told to tell their parents and cooperate with police to catch the bad guys, said Lin.
