A stellar lineup of 27 doctors who study Internet economy came to Pingtan, a dynamic economic zone in Fujian province, on Aug 19 to seek investors for their projects, local news portal ptnet.cn reported.
The doctors were taking part in an annual matchmaking event which promotes talented professionals and their projects to 10 companies and public institutions in Fujian.
Pingtan hosted this year’s event, focusing on e-commerce, Internet of Things, intelligent cloud service, cultural creativity, Internet finance, industrial Internet, agricultural Internet and basic Internet service.
Pingtan is looking for high-quality professionals in all fields, and has made a number of preferential policies and incentives to attract them, said Lin Jianglin, deputy director of Pingtan’s administration.
Four companies and public institutions reached preliminary intentions with the doctors, and three projects are expected to attract investment from Pingtan, according to local officials.

The following are their takeaways on Pingtan’s prospects.
Liu Shiping (PhD in Economics, North Carolina State University)
“Vast stretches of Pingtan still remain untouched. But on the flip side, it is a land full of opportunities and possibilities. I’ve prepared two projects that suit Pingtan. One is in equity distribution and the other big data training.”
“Pingtan, as part of the Fujian Free Trade Zone, can try equity partnership to push the financial industry’s development, cooperate with Taiwan to enhance medical service and cultivate more professionals in big data. I believe that with the preferential policies it offers to enterprises and professionals, Pingtan will achieve a steady economic growth.”
Huang Ping
“We can all see the great potential for the GPS technology in civilian use and the Internet of Things market. Our company plans to get a stronger foothold in the domestics market and we think Pingtan can be a good start for us. That’s why we bring our projects including GPS watches and other gadgets for children and the elderly.”
Li Zhe (Postgraduate at Osaka University)
“Domestic tourism companies haven’t been able to provide their service to local, while Japan has seen a satisfying effect from a cloud platform for intelligent tourism and tourism apps. So we think it is good to copy that model in China.”
“One of Pingtan’s most appealing parts is that it is ‘new’, meaning everything can start from scratch here. And since Pingtan aims to build an intelligent city, we can put all resources on the same platform from the very beginning.”
Wu Wei (President of Jiangsu Xiwang Electronics Technology Co)
“Pingtan has experienced a lot of changes since last time I came. I think it can seize the opportunity of upgrading and transformation to develop more business modes such as e-commerce. Also I think Pingtan can set up a talent base to lure elite professionals from Taiwan and the global market.”
