Customs officers in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone of Fujian province say they are working to improve customs clearance procedures for enterprises to develop a free trade zone (FTZ) and will follow some Taiwan customs procedures when examining cargo from Taiwan, according to the customs office's Chen Siyou.
Chen explained, “The Pingtan FTZ will focus on cross-Straits cooperation and, in spite of the fact that the mainland and Taiwan haven't yet discussed a mutually-acceptable customs system, Pingtan is ready to make the first move, which will no doubt be an innovation in customs management and speed up the clearance of Taiwan's cargo.”
He went on to say that Pingtan will apply similar procedure to transit goods, no longer requiring the cargo's owner to have a certificate of non-manipulation. Pingtan Customs has also begun a pilot International delivery program by sea in March, which is lower than the cost of delivery by air.
