A customs governing body for the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Fujian province was officially set up by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on July 7.
Pingtan Customs is a division-level subordinate to Fuzhou Customs. It has six departments and is responsible for a slew of customs missions including entry-exit cargo supervision, customs tax collection, registration for enterprises as well as counter-smuggling.
China’s authority is adopting “Pingtan Closure”, a mechanism of building an integrated customs supervision and management system on Pingtan Island, in a bid to roll out more favorable policies, facilitate cargo clearance at customs and enhance customs supervision efforts.
The establishment of Pingtan Customs will help to land more preferential policies and a faster customs clearance mode, and will boost cross-Straits businesses such as cross-border e-commerce, marine express, the Taiwan Commodity Market as well as allowing Taiwan’s vehicles to use roads in Fujian.
