The industrial and commercial administration of Pingtan county started to conduct quality inspections of mooncakes on the market on September 12, in a bid to ease worries about the safety of the pastry consumed during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on Sept 19 this year.

The authorities said that all of the mooncakes they had checked had passed the quality control test, and they had also checked the business licenses of the vendors.

Officials suggested that – in order to find the best quality products - people should buy mooncakes at big department stores and they should check the production and expiration dates.

The authorities will conduct another few rounds of quality inspections of mooncakes before the festival.
