Gong Qinggai, director of the Pingtan administrative committee, paid a visit to Xiamen University to discuss collaboration prospects on July 18.

Gong met with many of the university's leaders and exchanged views on a variety of subjects such as research on system and mechanism innovations and construction of a cross-Straits innovation center. He also gave a lecture on Pingtan's development situation to more than 200 students of arguably the best comprehensive university in Fujian province.

Yang Zhenbin, Party secretary of the university, welcomed Gong and pledged to continue to contribute to Pingtan's economic growth.

Xiamen University is one of the nation's top universities and has advantages in talent and innovation capabilities, said Gong, adding that Pingtan hopes that the university can serve as a platform for Pingtan's modernization and internationalization.

On Dec 25 last year, the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone signed cooperation deals with Xiamen University in many aspects such as talent cultivation and innovation mechanism construction.
