Pingtan received permission in May to open a Chinese martial arts (or Wushu) training center, Pingtan's culture and sports bureau said on Thursday.

The Martial Arts Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Chinese Wushu Association approved the application of Pingtan Xinjiayuan Sports Culture Ltd to open the training center, which aims to strengthen cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation in the field of martial arts and to promote public interest in the sport.

The training center is now looking to recruit 80 amateurs who wish to improve their skills, and will host its first class in June.
