The 2012 Cross Straits Tea Competition was recently held at the Tea Exposition Garden of Wuyi Mountain, Fujian province.
The tradition of tea competitions started in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in Fujian, especially at Wuyi Mountain, a world-heritage site famous for its oolong tea and red tea. People would use the contest not only to compete for best quality tea honors but also to exchange tea-making techniques.
This year, the competition has attracted more than 600 products made of various kinds of tea by competitors from the mainland and Taiwan.
