Wang Yi, the mainland Taiwan affairs chief, met with honorary Kuomintang (KMT) chairman Wu Po-hsiung on Tuesday to share ideas in promoting the cross-Straits relationship.
Wang, director at the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Wu met in Sanming city, southeastern Fujian province.
Wu is visiting the mainland from Nov 18 to Nov 25, upon invitation.
He will attend the 25th World Hakka Conference beginning Tuesday evening in Sanming city and a Hakka culture and arts festival held in Meizhou, Guangdong province.
Both the conference and the festival highlight Hakka people, a Hakkanese-speaking sub-branch of Han Chinese who have historically migrated from north China to the south.
Southern provinces on the Chinese mainland such as Guangdong and Fujian, as well as Taiwan are home to Hakka people.
