Pingtan triumphs with four gold medals from cross-Straits sports event
Twelve-year-old Shi Peiru wins four medals in track and field games.

The Cross-Straits (Kinmen) Island Sports Game concluded on Nov 18. Pingtan's athlete delegation returned home with six gold medals, two silver medals and 22 bronze.

All of Pingtan's six gold medals came from track and field events. The delegation also obtained third place in both basketball and tug-of-war group matches and ranked fourth in table tennis and badminton group matches.

Shi Peiru, the 12-year-old winner of four medals in track and field, brought back the most medals among all Pingtan athletes. She noted that this was an ideal opportunity to come to Kinmen and communicate with Taiwan athletes. She also hoped to be able to take part in more of sports event of this kind.

You Baoyu, 71, was the oldest among all Pingtan delegates and served as the team leader. She said the sports infrastructure in Pingtan has immense room for improvement compared to Taiwan. She hopes the Pingtan government can give more financial support to Pingtan's sports to promote athletic development.

This year's event was held in Kinmen county, Taiwan, between Nov 14 and 18. It promoted sports communication between Fujian province on the mainland and Taiwan.
