Pingtan Special, a kind of qu wine, went on sale recently in Pingtan, Fujian province. The liquor is co-produced by Fujian Pingtan Zhenghe Wine Company and Taiwan Kaohsiung Yiguang Wine Company.
Wu Jialin, director at the Taiwan Council for Industrial and Commercial Development, and Ouyang Gangsheng, secretary general of the Taiwan Chinese Association of Alcoholic Beverages, visited Zhenghe Wine in February. They proposed the cooperative production of Pingtan Special as a byproduct of Taiwan Maotai wine.
They also decided to invest 550 million yuan ($87.84 million) into a 200-acre area to develop a cross-Straits wine culture creative industrial park and a museum in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone.

Bottles of Pingtan Special are packed in Taiwan, and then shipped to Pingtan by a direct marine route linking Taiwan and the mainland.
