Residents in Fujian province will be able to take buses with a single transport card named "Fu Lu Tong" in different cities of Fujian when the province introduces a new public transport card this month.
The new card is of two kinds, a payment card that is used on buses, or to pay at supermarkets and restaurants, and a pass card that enables drivers to pay for freeway tolls without stopping their vehicles.
By the end of the year, the card will be available in Xiamen, Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, Sanming, Putian, Longyan, Ningde and Nanping and it will come into service in Fuzhou in March 2016.
In addition, the card can be used in cities that have joined the city traffic pass union, including Beijing, Tianjin and Shijiazhuang, and later it will be accepted in Hong Kong and Macao.
The cards issued by different cities will differ from each other, each highlighting local culture.
In the future, Fujian will add the traffic card function for use with taxis, public bikes and tourism tickets.
The old cards will be replaced for free and the preferential policy for students and seniors will remain as usual.
