A large dance drama, "Dream of the Maritime Silk Road", was staged in Quanzhou, Fujian province on Nov 9, as a key part of the 14th Asia Arts Festival.
The drama tells the story of two generations of sailors in ancient China chasing their dream of sailing overseas and exploring, with the aim of reproducing the scene of ancient China's booming trade.
Produced by the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and performed by the Fujian Song and Dance Troupe, the show blended Minnan (southern Fujian) culture with the cultures of countries along the Silk Road sea route, and has received a warm welcome around the world.
Since its premiere at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2014, it has been performed at the UN, UNESCO and UN headquarters.
