Taiwan youth, who has found a job in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province now can apply for public rental apartments with rents lower than the city's average, local authorities announced.

The city has been the first one on the mainland to roll out the policy to tackle housing problems facing the Taiwan residents.

On March 29, a group of 15 youths from Taiwan have already gotten the keys to their well-furnished apartments located in Xiang'an district of Xiamen.

The affordable housing service was first launched for low-income families in the city.

The move to include Taiwan youths in the target community dovetails with the country's newly unveiled 31 measures, to benefit people from Taiwan who study, work and live on the mainland. The city now has more than 3,000 Taiwan youths who work or have started their businesses in Xiamen.
