Chen Jianhua, member of the 13th CPPCC national committee from Fujian province, has called for action against plastic pollution in China.
Chen highlighted the major problems in plastic pollution management, including a lack of laws and regulations for plastic-producing businesses and users, little benefit for businesses that recycle plastic and the traditional way of burning or burying plastic waste.
In his proposal, Chen said that authorities should create regulations to control plastic pollution and introduce favorable policies to encourage businesses to recycle plastic waste.
Chen also said that more publicity work should be done to improve awareness on plastic pollution, and businesses should begin exploring substitutes for plastic.
