Fujian's top judicial authorities reported to the provincial legislators last Sunday on their work over the past five years.
The Fujian Higher People's Court and Higher People's Procuratorate both submitted reports to the first session of the 13th Fujian Provincial People's Congress held in Fuzhou, the capital city.
In the past five years, 3,439,825 cases were filed in Fujian courts and 3,337,434 were resolved, increases of 52.88 percent and 49.16 percent respectively over the previous five-year period, according to the official statistics.
"We have been strictly upholding the law and pushing forward judicial system reform in the province since 2013," said Ma Xinlan, president of Fujian Higher People's Court.
Fujian has been on the frontline in terms of judicial system reform and innovations. In 2015, the Quanzhou Intermediate People's Court rolled out a policy by which litigants are able to complete case filing procedures at any court in the city. The move has greatly improved judicial efficiency and is now being promoted in all the courts across the country.
Meanwhile, the province's top judicial body is also committed to promoting informatization of courts, including the application of judicial big data and artificial intelligence in trials and judgment enforcement, the report says.
"Our goal is to make sure every litigant feels the law's fairness and justice and to underpin judicial support for economic growth in Fujian," vowed Ma.
In the meeting, Fujian's top prosecuting authority reported on its anti-corruption efforts and on its supervision of related litigation over the past five years.
A total of 5,844 officials were prosecuted for corruption and bribery and 1,322 were charged for abuse of power in the period, including 48 provincial-level officials, according to He Zezhong, procurator general of the Fujian Higher People's Procuratorate.
Since 2013, charges against 4,407 people in Fujian have been dropped after discovery of improper or illegal evidence, according to the report.
