Jinjiang prepares to host Gymnasiade 2020

Jinjiang is set to host Gymnasiade 2020, after it won the bid to hold the international youth sports event on Oct 16.

The county-level city in Southeast China's Fujian province will be the second Chinese city to host the Gymnasiade after Shanghai in 1998.

The Gymnasiade, an international multisport event for teens organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF), is held every two years. Its first edition was hosted by Germany in 1974.

Virtually unknown outside China, Jinjiang is one of the country's wealthiest regions. It has had the highest GDP of any county in Fujian province for 17 consecutive years, and it is among the ten richest county-level cities in the whole of China, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The city is also among the most livable in China owing to its well-preserved environment and congenial climate. According to government statistics, Jinjiang has good air quality on more than 95 percent of days each year.

Home to many sportswear and other garment and shoe manufacturers, Jinjiang has previously hosted a lot of international and national sports event, ranging from cycling to basketball and marathons.
