Tu Yanmiao, along with other Fujian delegates to the 19th National Congress, arrived in Beijing on Oct 15.

From Fuzhou, provincial capital of South China’s Fujian province, Tu is the only firefighter across the country who got elected as a delegate to the Congress.

The honor no doubt is a reward for his great devotion to his work as a firefighter over the past 26 years.

In 1991, Tu Yanmiao, who was born and bred in a remote village located in the western part of Fujian, became a firefighter of the Fuzhou Firehouse Branch.

It was only roughly 20 days later that Tu carried out his first mission, which was to put out a big blaze that occurred in Fuzhou's Shangdu subdistrict.

That first experience of fighting a fire made the then young man fall in love with his job immediately.

After tough training over days and nights, Tu Yanmiao quickly grew to be one the best firefighters in the branch.

Over the past 26 years, Tu was always on the frontline of fire extinguishment and emergency relief.
