The Pingtan Cross-Straits Tourism Economy Development Association, a non-profit social organization aimed at boosting tourism cooperation and exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan, was established in Pingtan, Fujian province on Dec 31.

You Tianxiang, secretary-general of the association, introduced that the organization shall seek to open up new communication channels with Taiwan and establish an interactive system with related associations in Taiwan.

"It shall also be committed to assisting the Pingtan government to broaden the tourism market and promote the city's awareness of being an international tourism island," Zhu Yiliang, deputy secretary-general of the association added.
