The People's Liberation Army Navy's new frigate Ningde, hull number 510, was commissioned at a military port in Xiamen, Fujian province on Dec 28.
Named after a Fujian province city, CNS Ningde is a type 056 frigate, designed and built independently. It carries a variety of weaponry, has good stealth performance and electromagnetic compatibility. A wide range of advanced technologies are mounted on the ship.
Its duties will include patrol and surveillance, fishery protection, and anti-submarine warfare.
The Ningde crew have completed training and their trial voyage and passed the inspection with the highest score to date. On the morning of Dec 28, Ningde was commissioned at a solemn ceremony, with important government and military officials in attendance, including many from Ningde and Xiamen.
