Red tourism has undergone a huge renaissance in China in recent years, and now Fujian province's Revolutionary History Museum is looking to give tourists a "redder" experience than ever before using virtual reality technology.
The museum in Fujian's capital, Fuzhou, opened a series of new exhibits integrating VR on Dec 13, including a VR film immersing visitors in the Battle of Sanmaoling, a 1934 battle in which 10,000 Red Army soldiers died defending the fledgling Communist Party of China's Fujian headquarters in Changting county.

Other new VR experiences include a recreation of the 1929 Gutian Conference, an important meeting of top Communist leaders in western Fujian presided over by Mao Zedong, in which the Party cemented its leadership over the Red Army. The museum has also added VR technology to many of its original exhibition areas.
Fujian also launched a new online "red culture" site on the same day, which is reportedly the largest of its kind in China. Built by local online news agency Fjsen, the site gives visitors access to more than 60,000 words of historical documents, 10,000 photos, and 450 minutes of video.
