A Pingtan native has made her way into the taekwondo events at the ongoing National Youth Games, according to local media.
Wei Xiaoqing, 14, representing the Fuzhou team, will make her debut at the quarterfinal of the women’s 52kg taekwondo competition on Friday morning. The event will take place at the Binhai Sports Center in Changle town, Fuzhou city.
The budding star was crowned champion of the women’s 53kg division at the National Taekwondo Championships two years in a row. She locked up a NYG berth after cruising through preliminaries earlier this year.
The National Youth Games, the largest sports meeting Fujian province has ever hosted, will take place from Oct 18 to 27, with more than 7,900 athletes aged between 13 and 21 from over 80 cities participating.
