A senior Party official in Pingtan visited local residents and projects on Aug 10 in the wake of Soudelor, one of the most powerful typhoons to hit Pingtan in recent years.

Li Dejin, Secretary of the Pingtan Party Working Committee, travelled to a prefab house compound in Yudao village, the Hancuo reservoir, the Sanshiliujiao Lake reservoir and Kuohai village in Beicuo town.

Soudelor landed in neighboring Putian city on Saturday night and brought gales and rainstorms to all parts of Fujian province.

All 187 people living at a prefab house compound in Yudao village had been evacuated prior to Soudelor’s landing, which toppled several houses and affected the harvest of abalone.

Li urged local authorities to speed up construction of resettlement houses for the relocatees.

After inspecting work at two reservoirs, Li said a flood-control engineering project must be planned with enhanced safety measures to guarantee water supplies for residents.
