The activity was held by the Third Wednesday Club (TWC), the largest social enterprise coalition in Taiwan, to introduce Pingtan to its members.

Pingtan was designated by mainland authorities in 2009 to carry out reforms and boost cross-Straits cooperation.

It was included in the Fujian Pilot Free Trade Zone in April this year, with hopes that it can further deepen cooperation with Taiwan.

Pingtan has made a number of preferential policies for Taiwan investors and businessmen, making a perfect platform for Taiwan enterprises that are undergoing transformation and upgrading, said Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of TWC.

Meanwhile, Pingtan has improved the business approval system by cutting a lot of red tape in business registration and customs inspection, he added.

Li Deijin, Secretary of the Pingtan Party Working Committee, explained the advantages of investing in Pingtan, highlighting its ambitious goals of becoming an international tourist destination, a core area of the Belt and Road strategy and an experimental zone for cross-Straits cooperation.

“Pingtan spearheads the mainland’s reforms in cross-Straits cooperation. Taiwan has created an economic miracle that stunned the whole world and left much valuable experience. Pingtan hopes to use Taiwan’s lessons to construct an emerging industrial zone, a high-end service area and living area,” he said.

Pingtan is a vigorous place with advanced urban construction. It is actively exploring the development of cross-border e-commerce, port trade, high-tech industries and modern service sectors, which make it a great platform for cross-Straits cooperation, said Guo Changhui, chairman of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland.

Ye Zongren, president of the Taiwan Biomedical Engineering Federation, said it looks forward to investing in Pingtan since Pingtan and Taiwan share similar cultures and have already started medical cooperation.
