A pupil from Pingtan county has become a local sensation after he met and shook hands with President Xi Jinping earlier this month, ptnet.cn reports.

The encounter happened after Huang Linxuan was selected as the only representative to attend a plenary session of the Young Pioneers of China, a mass youth organization, in Beijing on June 1.

A beaming Xi showed up at the occasion and greeted the 412 youngsters. Huang was among a few who got to shake hands with the President.

“Although it only lasted one second, I can feel he has a strong, big and warm hand,” said Huang.
