The 2015 Cross-Straits Temple Fair, one of the main supporting events for the Seventh Cross-Straits Forum, will be launched at 5 p.m. on June 12 at Citizen's Culture Square in Haicang District.
Without crossing the Strait, residents in Xiamen can sample authentic Taiwanese food from 120 Taiwanese food stalls. The foods to be showcased at the fair were selected from 15 counties and cities in Taiwan.
The temple fair will feature more than 200 stalls this year, with 120 Taiwanese food stalls, 40 Taiwanese souvenir stalls, 8 zongzi stalls and multiple food stalls featuring Minnan (southern Fujianese) foods.
Zongzi is a kind of traditional food traditionally enjoyed during the Dragon Boat Festival. Zongzi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with a variety of types of filling and wrapped in bamboo leaves, reeds or other large, flat leaves. Eight zongzi stalls will be set up during the temple fair, with four from Taiwan and four from mainland China.
Visitors to the temple fair can enjoy a culinary tour complete with various cultural shows featuring Taiwanese and Minnan (southern Fujianese) characteristics during the "Night of the Straits Forum."
Last year, the temple fair was held for the first time in Haicang District. This year, the local government will promote its tourism resources and folk culture at the fair.
