“It is the first time I’ve driven my own car in the Chinese mainland. It is just as convenient as driving in Taiwan,” said Ye Meicun.

Seven cars were transferred from Taipei to Pingtan by a high-speed ship the previous day, marking the normalization of Taiwan vehicles in Fujian province.

“I’ve become familiar with traffic rules in the mainland. Plus the traffic signs are helpful, too, not to mention I have the navigation system,” he said.

The car left the hotel at around 8:15, and reached Xiamen at 10:46, faster than Ye had expected.

In the past Ye used to take a ship from Taipei to Xiamen, which cost him around 10 hours. The time is slashed to three hours if he chooses the Taiwan-Pingtan route.

“Transferring in Pingtan saves a lot of time. And I am more comfortable driving my own car in a business trip. I think I will do this again in the future,” said Ye.
