Four Taiwan-funded medical institutions have settled in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Fujian province, offering advanced services to local residents, ptnet.cn reported.

The four agencies are the Pingtan Dental Hospital, Pingtan Otolaryngology Hospital, Pingtan Cosmetic Surgery Hospital and the Pingtan Rehabilitation Hospital. They have all obtained business licenses and are expected to open in the near future.

The Pingtan Otolaryngology Hospital is situated in the Lancheng district and is being decorated prior to opening.

“To set up the hospital is to meet the need of people from across the Taiwan Straits and provide them with better medical service,” said Ding Guoping, an official with the local bureau of social affairs.

Ding revealed that the Pingtan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has agreed to cooperate with another hospital from Taiwan’s Taoyuan county.

Pingtan has been pushing for cross-Straits medical cooperation since being included in the Fujian Free Trade Zone, which relaxed restrictions for overseas investment.

After being designated as an experimental area for cross-Straits medical service, Pingtan has actively brought in medical professionals and enterprises from Taiwan. In addition, it allows qualified Taiwan enterprises to set up health institutions and certified doctors to open private clinics in Pingtan.

The requirements for starting a medical business in Pingtan will be further lowered, and the county will cooperate with Taiwan in more medical sectors, according to Xu Wangping, an official with the local bureau of social affairs.
